Houston travel agent Jamie DeJean spent a week cruising the French Riviera aboard the Azamara Journey. She sat down with us for a Q&A about her experience.

What was your favorite part of the ship?
I loved Aqua Spa! Theres’s a $20 charge per day to use, but well worth it to enjoy the nice and quiet area and take advantage of the hydrotherapy spa.

Most memorable meal?
The Indian buffet, with made to order curries—yum! We also enjoyed the made-to-order smoothie bar at breakfast. We liked the fish raw bar that offered any kind of fish you can think of freshly sautéed in front of you.

Best entertainment or evening activity?
The lectures were awesome. There was a federal judge on board who spoke about famous trials (OJ, Amanda Knox, etc.) and the port lecturer was very knowledgeable, having lived in Provence for many years. Trivia in the afternoons was my favorite thing to do.

Favorite port or shore excursion?
We enjoyed walking around St. Tropez very much—a very picturesque town, and we saw lots of cool yachts due to the regatta that was going on when we were there.
How was sailing with Azamara different from other cruise experiences you’ve had?
It was convenient to have tips included, wine with lunch and dinner, and no charge for bottled water and soft drinks. Loved the fact that the ship stayed in port until 11pm or midnight as well as overnighting in ports.
