We at FROSCH love globetrotting across our incredibly beautiful planet. From tropical islands to snowy mountaintops, we want to see it all! That’s why it’s important for us to take care of our planet. Read on for our list of six, easy ways to celebrate Earth Day while you travel!
Stay in an Eco-Friendly Hotel
Celebrating Earth Day can be a lot more meaningful when you do it with those who practice eco-friendliness more than one day a year. Plan on staying in an eco-friendly hotel on your next trip. There are tons of hotels that value going green in unique ways and they make for excellent Earth Day escapes.
Invest in Green Travel Gadgets
To help shrink your carbon footprint, there’s an increasing amount of environmentally friendly gadgets available to stock up on before your next trip. From sustainable hard drives and bamboo-encased laptops to solar-charge video players and water powered timepieces, there are more ways than ever to cut back on pollution and synthetic waste without cutting the cord on your favorite travel gadgets.
Recycle E-Waste
The EPA and other agencies suggest that electronic waste (e-waste) is the fastest growing waste stream in the world. It’s likely you have some outdated electronic appliances and digital cameras from your past trips gathering dust somewhere in your house right now, so instead of letting them take up space or leaching toxins in a landfill, make sure these gadgets end up properly recycled instead. Visit www.epa.gov/recycle to locate a responsible e-waste recycler in your area.
Visit a Green European City
You can keep green in mind as your planning your next great European getaway. Stockholm, Sweden; Hamburg, Germany; Copenhagen, Denmark; Amsterdam, Netherlands; Zurich, Switzerland; Budapest, Hungary; Reykjavik, Iceland; Nantes, France; and Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain are some of the highest rated eco-friendly cities in Europe. In these cities biking is the norm, organic food is available everywhere you look, and recycling is easy!
Go on a Volunteer Vacation
Vacations do the body and soul good, and none more so than volunteer trips! Volunteer trips are among the best ways to see and connect with the world, and for you to play an important role in the local community. There are hundreds of different volunteer programs in over 25 developing countries, so pick somewhere you’ve always wanted to go and leave your impact!
Get Outside
Earth Day is all about enjoying and take care of our planet. So don’t spend the whole day inside, glued to your screen. Go outside and remember why the earth is worth saving in the first place! Go for a hike, take a nature walk, or plan a picnic in your local park. Enjoy the wind in your hair and the sun on your face while reconnecting with nature and this beautiful planet we call home.
