The new Airbus A330neo (New Engine Option) represents major strides in greater fuel efficiency—reporting 14% improvement on fuel burn per seat. The new aircraft offers significant savings for airlines, all while simultaneously reducing emissions. Additionally, the A330neo comes with a new Airspace cabin design by Airbus that offers features such as quieter in-flight conditions (50% quieter than Dreamliner), germ-fighting restrooms, greater onboard storage space (66% increase), LED accent lighting, and updated in-flight entertainment options. Currently in production, the first flight will take place next year with TAP Portugal.
While its inaugural flight remains some time away, the cabin design has nearly been finalized and a mock-up was recently shown to the public. Divided into three cabins—Business Class, Premium Economy, and Coach—Airbus’ aim was to create a “love at first sight” impression on boarding passengers. Custom panels can either be laser-cut or 3D-printed to make it easy for airlines to add custom design elements throughout the aircraft, without making a significant investment. The cabin features higher ceilings throughout and some very customizable, colorful lighting effects; airlines have the option to choose from a range of 16 million colors. The bathrooms also have their own “mood lighting” and come with anti-bacterial surfaces, an aroma dispenser, and touchless controls on the toilet, sink, and garbage bin. The Airbus Airspace cabin will certainly be one of the most high-end commercial cabin offerings to date!
