Blue-Dot Navigation Changing Your Airport Experience

Travelers flying with American Airlines out of Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), Phoenix (PHX), San Jose (SJC) or Las Vegas (LAS) can now find the most direct route to their boarding gate, as well as airport lounges, restaurants, or bars with LocusLabs’ blue-dot navigation, available through the American Airlines mobile app.

How it Works

LocusLabs is a San Francisco startup specializing in indoor search, maps, and navigation. Built into the American Airlines’ mobile app, the feature uses Apple Core Location to provide passengers with turn-by-turn instructions throughout the airport. Travelers simply have to tap or type in what they are looking for and the app will display the easiest route to the destination using the smart device’s GPS, similar to getting directions with Google Maps.

Advanced Features

Depending on the positioning services available at the venue, the app will even allow for real-time repositioning to reorient travelers who are walking the wrong way or getting side-tracked by unplanned stops. But, there are more advantages than just getting travelers from Point A to Point B. Integrated with third-party apps, the technology enables travelers to locate their ride-share drivers more quickly and eventually, order in-airport food deliveries. These game-changing new features are helping American Airlines achieve their vision of providing a seamless door-to-door travel experience for their customers.
