Exruptive, a Danish tech company, is currently testing an airport security solution that is set to debut in 2017 at Dubai International airport. Exruptive’s goal is to eliminate security checkpoint bottlenecks at their source. Those “sources” are usually passengers who have forgotten to remove liquids or electronics from their bags, or who are unfamiliar with what articles of clothing need to be removed before passing through the checkpoint. Not only do these circumstances delay that individual passenger, but all passengers queued behind them.
Exruptive’s technology requires passengers to scan their boarding passes in order to collect a luggage trolley with a touchscreen display. This trolley would then direct that passenger to the shortest security queue. This new approach to airport screening was developed, in part, to combat budget airlines’ more cost-heavy baggage policies, which force passengers to pack more into their carry-on items.
Current testing of this new technology indicates that up to four times as many passengers (600) can be screened per hour when compared to current systems in place worldwide.
