Airplane manufacturer Boeing wants you to be able to stargaze on your next long-haul flight! The company recently designed a projection system that projects calming images on the walls and ceilings of its planes, including cloud-dotted blue skies during the day and a starry night once the sun sets. The company’s idea behind the creative light projection system is to enhance the flier experience. A clear-day sky can make a cramped cabin feel a little bigger and also create the illusion of flying in a convertible jet. It could also lead to a better night’s sleep, as projections could be used to simulate the time of day, so passengers don’t disembark groggy and exhausted.
Right now, the projection system is just a concept, but if it becomes a reality, its use wouldn’t be limited to just setting the mood or displaying psychedelic star patterns to lull you to sleep. They could also be used to project scenes found in nature or display helpful information for passengers such as information about the destination or even destination-related imagery to inspire passengers.
