Later this month, Oakland International Airport (OAK) is opening its first lounge for passengers. Escape Lounge will be the second luxury lounge in the US by developer MAG USA. Minneapolis, MN and the upcoming Hartford, CT lounges represent its other US locations. Escape Lounge will be open to all passengers for a daily fee of $45, and will include seating, complimentary internet access, as well as unlimited, locally sourced food & beverage options by Oakland Chef Chris Pastena. Breakfast options will include egg dishes, muffins, scones, and croissants, while lunch and afternoon snacks will feature salads and sliders.
OAK is undergoing a $35 million expansion to its international arrivals building and a $200 million renovation to Terminal 1. The new lounge is part of the renovations to modernize and upgrade the facility. Passenger traffic has continued to soar, with 34 consecutive months of passenger traffic growth, as of September 2016. The airport has also continued to see an increase in international travel. British Airways will soon offer nonstop service between Oakland and London, while Norwegian Air plans to operate new service to both Copenhagen and Barcelona.
