China is already home to the world’s highest bridge, and now it’s planning to build the world’s deepest and largest high-speed railway station! By the end of 2019, the popular, best-preserved and most complete section of the Great Wall, known as the Badaling section, will be able to transport travelers to and from their destinations, just in time for the Winter Olympics China in 2022. The station’s underground area will span about 380,000 square feet and sit 335 feet deep. For perspective, that’s the size of five standard soccer fields!
The station will be comprised of three floors, with separate levels for passengers who are arriving and departing, connected by what will be the country’s tallest escalators at 62 feet. The 218/mph train will be able to connect passengers to the Yanqing and Chongli stations, allowing them to get to and from many destinations throughout China more easily.
