Katz’s Delicatessen: Look – it’s famous for a reason. Located in the Lower East Side and in business since 1888, the hand-carved, massive sandwiches melt in your mouth. While you’ll have to wait in line, it’s definitely worth it.
Pastrami Queen: Flying quietly under the radar for years, this Upper East Side pastrami joint can give Katz’s a run for its money. For the really hungry, they also serve their pastrami in a triple-decker with corned beef, salami, or turkey.
Harry & Ida’s Meat and Supply Co.: This East Village pastrami destination serves the classic with a twist. We’re talking buttermilk-fermented cucumber and anchovy mustard.
Leibman’s Kosher Deli: No, not our Leibmans. This Bronx mainstay has been serving pastrami sandwiches since 1953. The massive sandwiches are as good as any in Manhattan and are served without all the tourists.
Mile End: While technically not pastrami, this Canadian outpost in Boerum Hill has been serving seriously good smoked meat since opening in 2010. Other than Katz’s, it is the only NYC restaurant that hand-carves its meat.
