According to flight data company FlightStats, Alaska Airlines was the most punctual airline in North America last year. The Seattle-based airline recorded an on-time rate of 87% in 2016, narrowly beating out Delta which came in second at 85.2%. Internationally, KLM finished with an on-time rate of 88%, edging out Iberia, Japan Airlines, Qatar, and Austrian Airlines to round out the top five. FlightStats defines on-time as arriving at the gate within 15 minutes of its scheduled time; this is also the official on-time definition used by the Department of Transportation.
