…No one! Officials in Paris are going to great lengths to fight pollution. The city recently purchased 2 electrically-powered EZ10 mini-buses from a French company called Easymile. Until April, these driverless electric vehicles will shuttle 6 passengers at a time between Lyon and Austerlitz stations. The shuttles are free to the public and will run every day of the week. The shuttles will also be tested between 2 green areas of the city later this year.
While the driverless EZ10’s are equipped with GPS systems that can avoid obstacles and are only sold commercially with a maximum speed of 9 miles per hour, additional measures are being taken to ensure safety, chief among them being a dedicated driving lane between the 2 train stations in Paris. Until officials determine how passengers adapt to riding in a vehicle without a steering wheel – or anyone behind it – the driverless vehicles will not mix with normal traffic.
