For some readers, the words “suspension bridge” are enough to turn the page. For others, they are nothing short of enticing! The recently dedicated Charles Kuonen Suspension Bridge in Zermatt, Switzerland is now the world’s longest suspension bridge at 1,621 feet long. That’s plenty of time for pedestrians to realize they’re 7,218 feet above sea level along this portion of the Europaweg Trail.  Did we mention the last 300 feet or so are actually uphill in one direction?  For those who can make it across without fainting, you’ll be treated to one of the most breathtaking views imaginable of the Matterhorn.

If nearly 8,000 feet up is too tame for you, may we suggest a trip to the French Alps and the Aiguille du Midi Bridge (12,500 feet above sea level), or nearby in Switzerland, perhaps the Titlus Cliff Walk (10,000 feet above sea level and 328 feet long)? Just don’t look down…or go ahead and look down! Either way, these man-made wonders will take your breath away!
