At least four companies are competing to make the days of catching a nap in between flights on an uncomfortable airport chair or bench a thing of the past. Companies that offer a variety of unique sleeping accommodations, ranging from cabins and capsules to sleeping pods, are fiercely competing for airline space. Minute Suites LLC is among the major players in the market, which already has retail sleep locations at airports in Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Philadelphia. Also leading the pack are IzZzleep, which offers sleep capsules in Mexico City’s airport, and Yotel Ltd, which operates YotelAir in four European airports.

The sleeping spaces offer a welcome retreat from the noise and hassle of a long layover; for instance, the izZzsleep pods comes with a bed, high-definition TV, safe, WiFi, and USB charging ports. The pods can be rented out for about $8 an hour, with a two-hour minimum. For about $30, the pods can be rented out for the entire night, and for an additional cost, a private shower is also available. Thanks to the hopeful future of sleeping pods, having a long layover could be a blessing, granting travelers a quiet place to sleep and adjust to a new time zone prior to arrival at their final destination.
