Early last month, Carnival purchased TWC Enterprises’ White Pass & Yukon Route division through its subsidiary, Holland America Princess Alaska Tours. The sale includes the rights to operate on the popular White Pass scenic rail, which is the gateway to the Klondike Gold Rush region and Whitehorse, Yukon, the capital and only city in Yukon, Canada. Carnival’s purchase also includes the White Pass’s port and various retail operations in Skagway.

As part of the venture, Carnival is planning to bolster both the local Alaskan economy and the tourism industry in the state. Holland America executed a memorandum of understanding with various companies in Skagway and the surrounding area promising to make investments in the region with regard to economic development and the overall job market. The sale is scheduled to close on July 31, 2018.
