From October 10-14, Paris’s Montmartre neighborhood in the 18th arrondissement celebrates its 85th annual small-scale grape harvest. Although the tiny vineyards around the Sacré-Coeur only produce a small quantity of wine, the festival is a great way to experience the harvest atmosphere against a distinctly French backdrop. Over 40 restaurants and bars will take part in the event, and activities include wine tasting, colorful street performances, and a fireworks display.
This year’s festival theme will focus on the idea of “peace” in observation of the centennial of the conclusion of the First World War. The opening ceremony will include a unique performance by over 1,000 Parisian children at the base of the Sacré-Coeur Basilica who will express and interpret their understanding of ‘peace’ through dance. An estimated 400,000 visitors are expected during this year’s festival.
