Auckland is often bypassed as New Zealand’s entry and exit city, but time here should not be missed! Known as the “City of Sails” and host to the 36th America’s Cup yacht race in 2021, there’s always something happening in Auckland. Whether you’re looking for cultural experiences, fabulous restaurants, inner-city hot spots, beautiful beaches or island escapes.

6:00 AM – NEW ZEALAND IS FIRST TO SEE THE SUNRISE
Reward yourself with a stay in a Harbor View room at the Park Hyatt, and wake in time to see the sunrise over stunning Auckland Harbor.

8:00 AM – CENTRAL AUCKLAND
Specializing in great coffee, visit Rushworth Café with your walking shoes on and grab yourself a caffeine fix, before wandering through Auckland’s stylish precincts. See singing sculptures, watch fish being unloaded as you walk through Auckland’s Fish Market, explore hidden laneways, people-watch in serene parks, and soak up the best views of the city, including Harbor Bridge and the Marina. During your discovery walk, make sure you stop for breakfast in the sun-filled conservatory at Ortolona Bistro, set in Auckland’s stylish Britomart.

11:00 AM – WAIHEKE ISLAND
Board a local fast ferry for a 40-minute ride across the Hauraki Gulf to Waiheke Island. Indulge in a wine-paired “Trust the Chef” lunch menu at family-owned vineyard Poderi Crisci. For four generations, the Crisci family has been immersed in the art of food and wine. Continue to a visit of Connells Bay Sculpture Park. Viewing these New Zealand artworks on a guided walk with the owners is an experience to be treasured. Stop in at Rangihoua Estate for some olive oil tasting before finishing your time on Waiheke Island with a glass of bubbles at Tantalus Estate.

5:00 PM – COCKTAIL TIME
Enjoy a cocktail at the rooftop bar of the Park Hyatt – home to the best views in town.

7:00 PM – DINNER
Within walking distance from the Park Hyatt are two of our favorite restaurants, Soul Bar and Oyster and Chop. Both offer delicious seafood, local lamb and beef, and of course, oysters with a glass or two of New Zealand Chardonnay!
