Among the biggest victims of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hawaii has eagerly awaited the return of both international travelers and those visiting from the US mainland. Given the state’s popularity as a worldwide tourism destination, authorities implemented quarantine and testing protocols for all arriving guests, with some regulations varying from county to county.
For travelers age 5 and over, proof of a negative COVID-19 test result, a second NAAT pre-travel test from a designated testing site within 72 hours of their final leg of departure, and a completed Safe Travels Hawaii online form will allow them to bypass the state’s 10-day quarantine period.
Prior to travel, passengers should educate themselves and prepare for any additional county regulations. For example, passengers visiting Kauai must not only show proof of a negative pre-travel COVID-19 test but must also test negative a second time after 72 hours on the island. A second test, as described above, is also required for travelers entering the Island of Hawaii. Maui asks travelers to obtain a second test, though it is not mandatory.
